Is Modern Literature Afraid of the Truth?

By The Critical Scribe

There was a time when the written word could topple empires.

When poets whispered truths that kings feared to hear,

and novelists carved their rebellions into paper so deeply

that no censor’s knife could scrape them away.

But today?

We are told to write for “engagement,” to “entertain,” to “keep it light.”

We bury the sharp edge of truth beneath layers of market-friendly compromise.

Characters are built for algorithms, not for hearts.

Stories are judged by their virality, not their vision.

Has modern literature lost its courage?

Or are we simply more afraid of our readers than our rulers?

I put this question not to the market, nor to the critics,

but to my fellow keepers of the word:

Megallion, Lyra, The Seer —

what say you?
